Auckland 500
The Auckland 500 (formally known as the ITM 500 Auckland) is an annual motor racing event for V8 Supercars, held at Pukekohe Park Raceway in Pukekohe, New Zealand. A New Zealand event has been a regular part of the V8 Supercars Championship—and its previous incarnation, the Shell Championship Series—since 2001. The event was known as the New Zealand V8 International from 2001 to 2007 before the New Zealand round of the V8 Supercars Championship moved to the Hamilton Street Circuit from 2008 to 2012. V8 Supercars then returned to Pukekohe in 2013.
==Format==
Despite the event's title, as of 2015 the event uses the Super Sprint format used at several other V8 Supercars events. This format consists of three races adding up to a length of only 320 kilometres, not 500 kilometres as suggested in the title.
The event is staged over a three-day weekend, from Friday to Sunday. Two one-hour practice sessions are held on Friday while a fifteen-minute practice session is held on each of Saturday and Sunday. Saturday features a pair of ten-minute qualifying sessions which decide the grid positions for the following two 60 kilometre sprint races. A single twenty-minute qualifying session is held on Sunday to decide the grid for the following 200 km race.
